Bad clients almost never happen anymore, but when they do it's nice to have a contract that has your back.
I have some involvement with our local Small Business Management group and they are adamant, in the legal sections of the courses they run, that notice must be displayed or you don't have a leg to stand on. It may not always help but its something.

In 5 years of operating my own business I can count my "Bad-un's" on one hand....in fact there has been 3. They don't happen anymore because I learnt to pick the signs and weed them out. If I have to revise a quotation more than twice, visit the site more than twice, answer more than two queries.......these are bad signs (not always). Some people will never be happy, some people change their minds, some people just plain want Rolls Royce service for Volkswagon prices.

Stonehenge is on a distinguished road
I think we all have to learn how to spot the red flags the hard way. After I learned that it seems like we almost never have any difficult customers.
