Register?

I keep hearing that I have to Register my business in NJ. Is this new? I have been in Business for 22 years. I have a federal id and a state id. Does anyone know what this is about?

Here's the link you need.

http://www.state.nj.us/oag/ca/contractor.htm

I found out about it maybe 2 months ago......It was 'suppose' to be done by dec 31, 2005...so technically you are late (as am I)

The fundamentals of it are a good idea......the execution and the handling of it by the state is just flat out horrible.

Last rumor I heard, the state has something like 40,000 of these applications sitting in a room, and processes something like 1 every 5 minutes.....so do the math and firgure out what that means.

And the real kicker is this. Technically, if you need to pull a permit for anything, you can't until you get this........we experienced this already this winter doing some home renovations on a winter project house.

I mailded mine out literally about 4 days ago. I really don't know what is going to happen. I've heard the local buidling departments are somewhat liberal so far, but it really is scary to think that you may not be able to pull a permit until getting it processed.

Also, there is NO one to talk too. You can call the state all day long...no one is there to talk too, no one can answer questions, no one to help with anything at all.

We were worried because technically this form was suppose to be mailed by last dec, and we wanted to see if there was a form to send if you missed the date or if you were starting a new business.....nothing!.....not even a bit of information could be found.

My best advice is to just get the thing filled out and mailed so you can at least say you did. The rest is just another typical State of NJ MESS!

Did you get your acceptance back yet Penn? I sent mine awhile ago and no word yet. Thankfully my schedule has been loaded with non-permit things so far.
