Getting new accounts

Hi guys this is my first year out on my own landscaping. I have some questions. How do you guys go about getting new maintainence contracts? Commercial specifically. I have a few but they were all due to calls from my telephonebook ad. Any advice for a noob.

Hi Digs...Good luck with your company.
I'm new also but I have always gone by the rule that if you put out a superior product with truth and honesty, the business will find you. I believe it will overtake you at times. We quit passing out business cards this summer because it was all we could do to keep up with the demand. You know that word travels in both directions, both good and bad. Referrals have been our mainstay. We tell each customer that their friendship is the most important thing to us and we believe it. We had a 4th of July cookout and four of our largest clients showed up. And it was by invitation. We feel if we can truly make them our friends, not only do we have less heartache when something goes wrong but they are telling everyone about us.

But make sure your work speaks for itself. Analyze the competion to see what they're doing. What can you do to exceed their standards. What is the best company in your area doing. You may pick up a few ideas by analyzing them.

If you're in a low demand area I would beat the doors down on propective clients. I firmly believe, one-on-one, face-to-face interaction beats anything I've ever tried to get the ball rolling.

Also, concentrate more on new development as opposed to replacing services. Make friends with the realtors in your area. They are worth a mint.

This is just an approach from one aspect. There are hundreds of things you can do. You could write a book, and I'm sure there are, on the possible answers to your question.

Commercial is the niche where I typically always wear slacks and a nice shirt.

Try to pre-observe a property, and find something you know you can promise to fix; if something is evident.

Especially if it can be done as part of the routine.
