Holy growth hormones Batman!
I have never seen grass grow as aggressively as this season!! We had very cool weather up until late last week, then a couple days of rain. Over the weekend the temps went into the 70s and the grass took off like wildfire! I inspected properties last week to begin lawn service and you could just see new growth starting after the winter nap. Today I'm cutting 8 to 10" of grass in some places!! I'm not happy about it but we can't move any faster.
My buddy manages a golf course nearby and is reporting cutting daily with 1 to 1 1/2" growth! Are any of the rest of you experiencing this?

Not yet, but it's probably only a week away. Gotta love springtime. Triple cutting, raking and bagging your properties, breaking in new employees all day and chasing estimates around in the evenings.

this completed week five here and fortunately our massive growth has not happened yet... the grass isnt even juicy which makes mowing that much easier. Im amazed that on some lawns, they are showing signs of stress already! what a year.

We've been cutting non-stop since I've posted and need to make the loop again. I've had one customer who wants to be cut twice a week for now, it's nice to have someone that realizes what we are up against.
I had to send my guys to one large account today to blow clippings off, after 3 passes with the mower at various heights we still couldn't hide them. It's a tough season starting out.

The rate of growth has finally slowed to a manageable level. We got all accounts done on schedule this week, the first time this season. I've picked up quite a number of new accounts too, it seems our work is getting noticed. All new accounts are neighbors of existing clients.
I had a slight accident the other day that I can laugh about now, but at the time took me by surprise. I was cutting around a mature apple tree with the Z rider and was watching the end of the deck so I didn't injure the trunk. This took an approaching branch at forehead level out of my peripheral view and WHACK!!!!
The branch was about 6" in diameter and didn't move. I finally understand what those rotating stars above a cartoon character's head are about! When I hit it was like a big flash of lightning had occurred and it took a few moments to figure out what had just happened. I guess I've never whacked my head hard enough to see stars before.
Fortunately I was wearing a straw hat and just got a minor bruise from the ordeal. I looked around to make sure no one had witnessed my stunt and went about my business like nothing happened, lol.
