Preen pro

Has anyone used preen pro for pre-emergent control in landscape beds?

We use barricade (tank mixed) which has great results but a pain to tank mix and spray and clean.

I would be interested in switching for that reason but only if preen pro works like it claims.

Both claim 6 month control. Preen pro claims more species of weed controlled. However, I think Preen Pro @ $27 for 5000 ft2 is more expensive to use. (But would save applicator time).

Any opinions?

You can use snapshot which is a granular product.

Preen is the homeowner name for Ronstar.

Any granualr application is alwyas going to be more expensive. Make sure that the people that are applying it, know the rate and how to do it, or you just as well throw 5 dollar bills out there.

We use Snapshot in the nursery containers, it is Surflan and Devrinol in a granular form. It works great, fairly broad spectrum, and keeps most everything out.

We use Orzaylin T&O ( active ingredient in Surflan, generic label) at about 1 ounce to the gallon, applied in backpack or by chem lawn nozzle off our sprayer. For us, a March and October applicationkeeps most everything rela clean.

You can mix Roundup with it, but we don't, its a lot faster to spray just the pre emergent and blast it out. It has no contact activity, so it won't hurt the foliage.

Thanks for the input. What we have been doing works just fine and we have enough barricade to use for the season.

We use Preen in perennial beds.
We buy it from the wholesaler as Treflan, so it is cheaper than Preen.

It works somewhat and seems to do better after a couple of applications. Depends on how many years of weed seeds you have in there.

We apply it once in the spring.
It does cut down on hand weeding.
