voles and moles

Does anyone know any effective ways to rid or help discourage vole or moles in a yard?? I've seen the spikes to put in the ground that vibrate or emit a sound to get rid of the pests, but any other ideas???????

For moles, milky spore is the best treatment. It kills the grubs that they feed on and can stay in the soil for several years. Completely biological (safe).

For voles... get a cat. Or, short of that, use castor oil as a repellent (works for moles, too). There are some products that have a water soluble form that you can put in a hose-end sprayer and treat the whole yard.

I used to use some smoke bomb poison on them a few years back out west. They looked like a mini stck of dynamite. You plug up the other holes with dirt, push one in the last hole, light it, and plug up that hole. Then get ready to plug any holes that smoke pours out of. That was eight years ago, so I don't know if they still sell the stuff. It slowed activity down at least. The property was surrounded by wheat fields, so there was no shortage of reinforcements.

For moles, go here first and read all of this. Read it twice so you understand the mole. If after reading it, you don't want to trap, pick up some TALPRID and use it exactly as the label says. It works. Voles are nothing but field mice that make paths in the turf above ground. Any D-Con type bait will get em.
