[Brian, Concrete]

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this but I have been doing quite few replacement of service walks and walkways in backyards that are cracked because of a trees that have 1 or 2 roots over the years that have grown so big they have lifted up the concrete cracking it. So far what I have been doing is taking a sawzall and cutting the root where it meets the walk tearing out the walk then replacing it. So this is a question for any arborists out there. Can this kill the tree by cutting a root this big? Thanks for any input

I have seen where almost half the trees roots were cut as you describe and the tree survived, seen others die in the second season.
