Pre-Em in new landscape beds
This doesn't exactly belong here, but the folks here may well be better read on this topic than in other areas.
I want to use a Pre-Em for landscape beds as we install them. Snapshot and Treflan are the options I'm looking at. I know Treflan is cheaper but supposedly doesn't do quite the same job.
Which do you prefer and why?

We use Professional Preen....it has the same ingredients as snapshot but is cheaper. It's a nice add on for large mulch jobs as well as a 'staple' to our landscape maintenance program.

Pro Preen - Thanks. Does it come in granule or liquid form?

Granule... We apply it with a hand spreader on most landscapes. If it's a large landscape we'll use our fertilizer spreaders.

We use a combination of Gallery and Barricade. Covers the broadleaf weeds and grassy weeds. Has worked quite well for us except last year, but with the way weather was, I don't think anything would have worked very good.

I've used treflan in the past, but don't try to market it much.
If you use a granular, I've found a shaker to be quick and easier. Its basically a plastic bottle you fill up with a pipe coming out of it. You can the pre-m around the plants that way without spreading it all over the place.

Well I use XL 2G, real fine material, but it 's the one that has worked best for me, because it's finer than treflan it cover the area better.
I might be doing thing wrong but have try the spreadears they sell and some coffe cans, and the thing that really love is to use plastic disposable gloves (2 pair) and spread it by hand. Hey don't tell DEC I wrote this

We use Treflan. I was thinking of going to Snapshot but is like three times as expensive. I have never heard of professional Preen. I'll ask my supplier.I leave a hand held spreader with each client and tell them to apply Preen once a month during the season. It sure helps me the following spring when they maintain properly.

A few days ago I planted a couple of new flower beds but did not lay down any Snapshot because I had heard that a pre-emergence would hinder or retard the growth of new plants starting out.
I really would like to have the weed control, but don't want to sacricfice plant growth and performance either.

I used Snapshot this past year and its cut my weeding in half so far. I was comparing snapshot and treflan also for the price, but after talking to our local dealer went with the snapshot. The only prob with snapshot I was told was not to use in annual beds.

We only use Treflan...............I posted in another thread.........for commercial properties with large bed volumes we have used Pendimethylin.....not as favorable results as Treflan......but it does help and costs much less.

We've been using Preen Pro instead of Snapshot....same results about a 1/3 of the cost. We use an independent dealer and just asked.
