terex

I got what sounds like an great offer for a tx760B in the mail. This is similar to a JD310 or CAT416 from what I was told by the salesgirl.

Anyone know anything about this brand of backhoe?

You get what you pay for. If you are interested, look at terex's stock. It has SKYROCKETED over the past year (missed on that one...doh) One of the reason is due to the passing of the national highway building act. Basically, a lot of BIG companies are getting massive contracts to build roads...

Hence, where terex comes in. They make a machine that fits a 'short duty' job. In other words, people buy them, finish the contract, and dump them.

Long term use is questionable. But, for the price, it is tempting. If you are a small operation that is going to depend on 1 machine working day in and day out, and for years to come....I would think twice about getting a good deal on a machine.

I guess no one knows more about these?

I think we are going to rent one for a week so I will get back to everyone with a judgement.

pennscapes.

one reason we don't own any equipment at all is because we can't figure out what to buy. so we rent and rent and rent.

my partner and I are both backhoe people but we don't plow snow and typically only use a backhoe (rented) 4 months a season... give or take week here or there.

To justify buying a CAT or JD backhoe we would need to start plowing and hustling work to keep it busy and pay for it. We are simply not interested in doing that. So, we have never considered buying a new backhoe because 6 months of work just wouldn't pay for one of those.

enter TEREX with this great deal and 3 year warrranty (lack of warranty is why we would never consider buying a full sized backhoe used)

we can justify buying it new and can actually pay for it and make profit running it for only 6 months a year. I am sure we will be at that point next year that 4 months will have turned into 6. If not I can certainly hustle a few extra weeeks. Anyway, it sounds like the situation you described fits us pretty well.

the deal is 10% down ($5000) then 1000 per month for 48 months at 1.2%financing

side by side with CAT 416E terex is more powerful except for 1000lb of breaking force on the backhoe. Loader has more power. other specs are pretty similar. just 15k less to buy.

Like i said, will rent for a week and get back to everyone

Don't forget about resale value here either. If you decide to sell in a few years, terex has a horrible resale value.

My other option is this. If you only use the machine part time, then why not consider a used machine and save even more money?

It seems like you want to buy new just for the fact of having new. for the price of the new terex, you can buy a nice used unit, and the the thing is, after 5 years, the used unit may end up being worth MORE than the new terex unit.

Just my thoughts. But either way, try the terex and see what it is like. I've driven one for a brief moment and I was not too thrilled. It felt like a giant farm tractor that they decided to put a bucket and backhoe on. It just didn't feel like a construction machine as much as a the others do. Very bulky and 'clunky' feeling.

I am all about security and money. It's not as much about new as it is about warranty and finance rates.

Used anything has high interest rates and I hate giving my money away. (We just paid off 2 trucks early this year. 1 was 2 + 1/2 years early and we saved $3500 in interest)

Used also often means 30 day warranties. I am not a mechanic. My partner is not a mechanic. So with an extended warranty of 3 years "bumper to bumper" that is security for us.

For that same 50k range, there are plenty of CAT 420D IT units for sale within 200 miles of us. I would prefer that unit 10 times over, however, not for 7-10% finance rate on a loan OR non-warrantied problems say next spring when I have 0 time to deal with it.

However, I am expecting a 2nd class piece of equipment. If it weren't, everyone would be rockin a terex and not JD or CAT.
