stone screed

anyone ever use the stone screed?
made by kalcometals, looks like if your base was pretty close and topped with fines a person could set blocks pretty darn fast!

$149.00 for something that I generally make with scrap wood on site if and when I really need it. Which isn't very often. Someone will buy them though.

It looks like it would only be as good as the first block you set, which can't be as exacting as prepping the entire area at once using a laser.

I'm having deja-vu - did someone mention this product a few months or so ago?

I'm with Dan - we cobble stuff like that together every few weeks - scrap lumber and a hand saw and we're good to go.

I am one of the suckers who actually bought a stone screed. and let me tell ya it stinks. it only works when leveling very loose thin layers of screenings(stone dust) if its compacted at all forget about it.the blade skips and your all uneven. and dont even think about using it on road mix. the stone screed is built well, very solid. in theory seems like it would work well..........but in the field my guys wont touch it.

Steve - first off, welcome to the site. Second - that's pretty darned handy of you. Did that level come threaded for that kind of application, or did you custom fab the thing?

Oh and one last question - are you the happy guy, or the frowny guy with the ears?
