What do you guys and gals find to be best at shaping sod at the bed lines or cutting up to the hardscapes?
Over the last few years our growers have incorporated
a nylon mesh. A sharp edging shovel works OK but
it still tears or shreds. I have been using a serrated steak
knife and that means lots of hands send knees crawling around.They dont last long either,
but it comes out real nice and clean and easy to go back over

What method do you use?

Spade or cheap bypass pruners.......

can use the pruners like scissors or....hold one handle so that the blade is down sharg edge facing you and you slice away at it.

Thanks Glan. Never thought of by-pass pruners. I have some
older ones and will try that. Plus They can be sharpend after
cutting a sod job.

I learned the trick from Dan Deutekom.

I've used those carpet knives pictured in this thread, but it's really hard to sharpen a blade with an inside curve, so they end up falling by the wayside quickly for us. So we just use utility knives and the saw.

we use razor blades, was using a sod knife but razor blade goes through the mesh and dirt much easier.

Hatchet here too. never used anything else and you can always give it a good sharpening. Just be careful against concrete or pavers.

Shape spade or razor utility knife. Razor cuts faster than anything else and it's quick and cheap to replace blades. Cutoff saw is a cool idea.

I use a machete. Dull of course. One guys stays on the ground tightening and cutting the entire time.

I had a small sod repair job last year.........some 20 strips was all. There was nothing in the trailer at the time.....spades we had left home out of the trailer after cleaning it out.

Used a new edger blade.

be surprised what you can use to cut sod.

Now that I think back........even used screw drivers some years back
