Red dye fuel

I have a weird bazzare thing going on here. WE toom delivery on a new 301.8 minii-X in December. Upon my visual when it came to the site, it wss duely noted that a red, hard substance was clogging the pre fuel screen in the tank neck. It is the same color as red dye fuel for off road use. We sent the machine back for the techs at Cat to see it, the gave us a loaner, and, cleaned every part pertaining to the fuel system, changed filters, and all.

IT'S BACK.....Has anyone ever had red dye separate from the fuel in a tank?

This is weird to say the least.

could it just be rust that has been dyed by the fuel? Ive run off road diesel for years and never had a problem.

I've never heard that either Bill. I think NCSULandscaper is on the right track, it's probably some substance that absorbed the dye. I'd think the dye would be added in a liquid state, but I'm just guessing.

It's in the dealers shop now. It will be interesting to see what it is. Pertaining to rust, the tanks on all Cat MTL and mini X's are plastic. This simply looks like if you took plastic and molded it in the puddle it made on the screen. I'll let you know what they find out.
