Bill and everybody else

Bill..Rob sent me your way. I am getting ready to purchase a truck for landscaping. I will need a truck (prefably F350) that has a dump bed, but lower to the ground, able to pull a trailer with a bobcat or TCM. Diesel would be my first option, manual tranny.
Any input would be great, seeing as this will be my first big truck buy.
Rick

Rick you may have scared Bill away from this thread right off the bat with the "F350" remark. LOL

Hearing alot of good things about the Chevy 4500. There is even an earlier thread "yesterday" from Gardenhaus with his new truck and set up.

Rick I know I am not Bill but I would look into the Chevy 4500 with a Duramax Diesel and Alison Tranny. You won't regret it!!

I've got it!
1988 F-350 1 ton dump, manual, 7.3 liter diesel.
new engine ( approx. 8,000 miles ). Please make me an offer.
I have all paperwork from past repairs. It only totals about $21,000. No lie.
Please make me an offer.

Read this article and tell me if you are still interested in a Ford truck. I am beyond disgusted with them, first, because they have made rubber band drive transmissions since 1985. Second, their diesel is falling apart before they can make them, and third, their V-10 squirts spark plugs out of the holes at about 100,000 miles, that's a $4,000 fix.

I had a number of Ford trucks, and after running a 20 year report on them, they cost me double what any GM or Dodge product has.

If you are going to do a light dump, the 3500 GM will ouyt work, out run and out perform any Ford any day. John is right though, if you are doing a 3 series, go a step beyond and and get a 4500 series. Set the 4500 next to the F-450 and if you cannot physically see the differences between the two, you're blind.

If you don't mind the down time, and don't mind making payments on trucks sitting idle, then go Ford. If you want to use your truck for work, go GM, Cornpicker, Freightliner, etc.

That's my opinion after righting way too many repair checks on Ford trucks.
