With the timing mark on the mag set where it needs to be, rotate the engine so number one cylinder is at TDC. You should be able to check that with a whistle tester or a compression gauge. If you don't have one, the old fashoined way is to stick a cork or a wad of paper in the hole and when it pops, you should be close. Some of the V-4 Wisconsins had timing marks at the back of the flywheel and there was a hash mark cast into the block.
