Grease

What do you do to keep your equipment greased? Do you have to constantly act like the grease police? Do you have a grease gun for each machine? The only way I have found to keep machines greased properly and frequently is to do it myself. If I assign the job to anyone it falls by the wayside. Does anyone have an innovative system?

Daily checklist where the employee responsible checks off task and signs as complete....trying to make those small issues second nature; just part of the daily routine. One of the things that has worked for us is to do any maintenance in the morning that way at the end of the day there are minimal things to do other than just to lock up and head home (or whatever or where ever else people go) To me nothing is worse than at the end of a long day being faced with a long list of maintence issues. Ideally in the future I forsee hiring an after hours maintenance person

....of course I check frequently....I've said it a couple times, "Yes, a choice does exist. Grease or unemployment." It's rarely a problem after hearing that one.

I wish I had an innovative system...our system is, when the skidsteer starts sqeeking, everything gets greased. I'm plodding ahead with checkoff sheets for other things, and I imagine we'll add scheduled maintenance to the list.

But until then, the squeeky wheel is what gets the grease.
