Rock/Boulder types

Need a quick name of the large sand/red stone slabs that you see dry stacked for walls, steps, and placed in landscapes.

3-5' long, 6-12" deep and wide....

Some varieties of stone will come in larger sizes, as you mentioned , and also cut down into more manageable sizes to use as cap material or to dry stack walls.
The only one I can think of off the top of my head would be a Tenn. Pink Crab Orchard.
In this pic, the client already had the wall and we had to re-construct the steps so he didn't have varying heights in his rises. I've seen this stone in all shapes and sizes. It may not be what you're looking for but it's all I got.

A lot of those pics are of stone from my backyard - Chilton to our east and Fond du Lac to our south have many limestone quarries - is that the red you were thinking of? The color of the Chilton Wall?

Now that I"ve seen a nice selection, I like the weathered ledges. Both limestone and the sandstone. The Chilton is just a little too grey.

If it wasn't for Chicago in the way and intrastate dot's, I would rather just go up to WI. Nice color up in Reedstown on the Kickapoo River.
