Design for Commercial Sites

I'm looking for resources/guides for designing small to moderate commercial landscapes. Our company often does renovations for building entries, signage areas, parking lot islands, etc. (in Zone 4). I sometimes find it difficult to translate design principles for residential sites to the special challenges and requirements for commercial sites.

All the references I've found usually deal with large-scale applications such as streetscaping. Can anyone point me toward books, websites, etc. that address smaller scale commercial design? Or would anyone be willing to summarize their approach to these kinds of jobs?

Thanks in advance.
