Exciting Project

Hi Everyone,
I thought I would just let you know about a project I am working on, as it is very exciting.

I was hired to provide a design for a Client. They then hired me for project management. I was very happy about this, as the project was huge.

The landscape design was for the entire property. It included an allee of trees along a 500 foot long driveway.
The allee was along a good part of it, not all. There are to be additional plantings.

There are plantings in the front and a stone retaining wall. There is another stone retaining wall on the side.

The rear yard has a very large curvilinear swimming pool, with a stone waterfall, tanning shelf, and vanishing edge.
The vanishing edge should be breathtaking, as it rests at the top of a high, wooded slope with a view down to the water. Many trees were cleared to open up this view.

The pool paving will be travertine pavers with matching bullnose coping.

Although the majority of the hardscape is natural stone, there are a few areas where I used Versi-Lok walls, since they would not really be seen.

I'll try to send some pics. In the meantime, if anyone wants to read about how I coordinated the stone, they can do so at my site, where I wrote a page on it. http://www.landscape-design-advice.c...ral-stone.html

Thanks!
Susan

Anxious to see the pictures. Informative site but the Google ads do make it seem less "intimate" and more like a billboard, which would seem important to potential customers looking for that personal touch.

Here's a picture of the pool in progress. They were just shooting the pool with gunite. You can see the water view and the setting of the pool. The deck railing, where I took the picture is not curved....I stitched 3 images together and the rail became distorted.

The curved pool area at rear/center will be the vanishing edge. The other smaller curved area all the way to the right will be the natural stone waterfall. The front area obscured by the railing is the tanning shelf, which is a shallow area for lounge chairs.

The area to the left of the pool will be filled to create a level area to the retaining wall and be planted.

Susan,

Is this photo from the construction of the landscape that you have already completed and have final photos of on your website?

Did this site require extensive regrading...did you have to bring in a lot of soil?

Love the organic shape of the pool. It is nice to have the opportunity to get "bird's eye views" from a landscape you are creating!!

Very nice! Now is the contractor installing one that can install pools and waterfeatures as this also, or did you need to contract that out to a seperate contractor?

To the left does the embankment slope away and down from the pool?

Thanks

Hi Karla,

This is a photo taken on Friday from the project mentioned above that I am currently working on.

The project required much re-grading. It also required special attention to grades so that the basin behind the vanishing edge would not be seen from the deck.

No soil had to be brought in as whatever needed was used from the pool excavation. Actually, soil had to be trucked out.

The pool contractor will also do the waterfall, but I will work closely with him as to design, stone choices and placement.

Yes, the grade to the left slopes away from the pool, which is why a retaining wall is there. The property slopes down(if looking at the picture) from right to left. This created the nice opportunity for the waterfall coming from a higher elevation. It also slopes down towards the rear of the property from the pool to the rear water.

Things have been slow due to the weather. The pool contractor is getting ready to do the tile at the top of the pool walls. After that, they will be laying the travertine pool coping, which has already been delivered to the site.

I'll post more pictures when they are further along and there is something interesting to see.

The disappearing edge looks like it's suspended and the distant water view is beautiful.

Thanks for asking!
