Dynascape color

anyone have the new color rendering from dynascape, I got a new computer with vista and naturally I have to pay $1000 for the upgrade from dynascape in order to print and Email sketches.
and for a mere $1200 I can get the color rendering with the upgrade.
Any thoughts??

Hi joshuatree,

If your upgrade is going to be $1000, that's likely because your subscription has lapsed, so that would be the cost to upgrade to the latest release, and not simply what it would cost to be able to print and email. (That's pretty basic stuff, you don't pay extra for that). From what I remember, upgrade costs are based on how long your subscription has been lapsed.

I did the Vista Compatibility work myself, and we had to gut some older functionality that wasn't Vista Compatible, and replace it. Our next release (in testing now) includes our fixes and a bunch of new features, and we've moved to the much nicer PDF format for printing/emailing.

If you're being offered DynaSCAPE Color for an extra $200, that's probably the deal we've been giving our subscribed users since it's release. I believe it will be ending some time in the near future though, so if you're interested in DS Color it could be worth it. (I'm not certain but I believe the regular price for Color is a few times that.)

Any questions about the product(s) let me know - I was development lead on the Color product, so I know it fairly well. If you have cost/subscription questions, although I'm just one of the tech guys, I 'll get you answers from sales if you'd like.

Hope this helps,

F.

You can just purchase the software and I believe that you get one year of updates included. As long as you are happy with the software, you could continue working with it without the added cost. The problem would come when there is a big update (ie. new version of windows and you need the updates to move up to the newest version, or anything similiar), that is when you will be hit with the updates multiplied times the number of years since you last updated. It can get very expensive if it has been a few years since you purchased the software or last updated. It is really good software, I really like using it, I can now do just about anything I need to with the software.

Good luck.

I have been using dynascape since its introduction in 2000 or was that 1999?
I get more than I need from the basic program, but unfortuneatly when I do have any questions dynascape is not very interested in helping me out, likely because I haven't upgraded my system. I am in the market for a new laptop and the one I buy will be have the downgrade option to winxp. To run color you need to have vista, so this was my way around it. I was quoted 1400 dollars to upgrade to color.

I don't believe that you need vista for color. I would check on that again. I could be wrong but I know someone who has color and XP. unless it is in the newest version or something like that. Good luck and it seems like a nice addition to the software.

In order to run dynascape on vista I need to upgrade to the color version. I have been very satisfied with my original version of dynscape so I will downgrade to winxp.

That is correct, only color will run on Vista. I like XP myself so there is no rush to get Vista. I do like Vista and I think it will be a good operating system on a much faster computer with lots of ram. I will see about upgrading in a couple of years.

I have been thinking of adding Dynascape to my business. I am extremely impressed with the product. However, the cost seems very difficult to budget for at the moment. I'm wondering if anyone has any insight on whether the company provides the product on the installment plan.

Dynascape and Me

I absolutely love my design program. Dynascape has a good product.

The only issue that I have is that I really dont utilize all those bells and whistles that come along with most of the updates. I am really quite content just being able to draft and have some of the Iris Quote capabilities....I am pretty simple that way. My software is probably 6 or 8 years old.

When there are any new and big updates that change the functionality, then that is a problem, and yes, they do require a person to do multiple updates (kaching kaching) to not only just have a functioning basic system, but to get all those extra (and unnessary to me) bells and whistles. I have a hard time with accepting that.

These updates can make it cost prohibitive. I do wish that they would offer seperate benefits, maybe an option for upgrading just the basic functionality stuff, and then another option for the bells and whistles, so that they can accomodate all needs. I know there are others like me who are just satisfied with the simple.

Yes, I am afraid that one day I will have another issue with the software (and of course it will be during my busy season), and when I call to get assistance they might not be willing to assist me with making my system functional UNLESS I upgrade for $4,000!! Dynascape was willing to assist me the last time this happened, but I am feeling like it will be the last.

So.....if you are interested in dynascape, I think that a person needs to realize that there are significant costs down the road associated with it. If you are a cutting edge person, these upgrades will be worth the buckaroonies. But, if you are choosing the familiar and the simple, then, well, plan ahead!

Installment plan sucks. You can buy the product outright, or pay half now and half in 30 days, or you can pay like $700 to start and pay off the rest within a year, for 15% interest. The kicker? The interest is charged right upfront, so even if you pay it off in four months, you have still paid 12 months of interest. And the interest seems to be on the entire amount, not just the remaining part after the initial month's $700 is paid. I was quoted like $479 in interest for $3000 worth of product, $700 of which I had to pay the first month. I don't see how that is fair to pay interest on the initial $700 when I pay that at the same moment the interest is charged!

My advice? Put it on a low-rate credit card, or try Prosper.com or Lending Club. Then you can pay it off early and not keep paying interest if you can pay it off beforehand. 15% seems stiff, even if you are going to take all year to pay it.

I love my Dynacare software. Quote is very nice and so is color( nice and fast) I think for a business investment, what you pay to be current with your “tools” per year is minimal. I think it cost me like 600.00 a year for seat for upgrade. My initial I think back when I purchased was like 2800.00 or something. What quote cost’s to me is worth it. It is a total business quote system . Your setup will take some time but when you have it set to how you run business pricing, ect.. It saves a lot of time. And we all know, time = $. If it makes you a lot more efficient , then think of the money you are able to make because you are able to be more efficient, and have the professional feel and image. If you are not going to utilize the software to its potential or at least mostly, then do not buy it. I would get one of the cheaper cad programs and just design
