Time for a new home, new landscape
We're working out the final details, but it appears the new house my wife and I have been interested in will soon be ours. It's new construction, so we're going from a fully scaped yard to bare dirt.
Though I really like the landscape at our house now, I'm excited at the prospect of trying some new things at the new house.
If you were moving to a new house that had no landscaping done yet, what would be on your hit list of things you'd love to have? (I'm looking for some ideas )

First thoughts are is this a turn and burn or long term home?

Paul - good question. If I install the 4,000 sqft drive with pavers, I may be looking to turn and burn to make a few bucks. But I think that chance is on the smaller side. The lot size, house orientation and general location really fit nicely with what my wife and I want, so I would have an interest in sticking around for 10 years or so.

Dan - I told my wife that our next home would have a 1/4 - 1/2 acre pond. Unfortunately, this lot size would not allow for that (not without giving up everything else). So we'll have to do something smaller. And I want to be able to sit and/or swim in it. I'm picturing a big fattie cigar in one hand, a drink in the other, water splashing on me from a waterfall. Now if I was only good looking or in shape, we'd have the makings of a calendar!

The classic Gappsi Design driveway is a must.
Peace,

I just ran a google search on Gappsi - never heard of them before. Wow!!! What gorgeous stuff! Rex, you have some of the coolest links to hardscape stuff.

First thing to do is start with a clean sheet of paper LOL.
Do you entertain alot?
if you do how many people do you have over?
What time of year do you do most of your entertaining?
Pets.... Dog run or complete fenced yard?
Fence question, do you have enough privacy around the home or are you going to need a taller wood fence?
Boy this is sounding like a sales call
I think you get the picture............I wish we had one to work off of Hint..hint.....
Thing that I have or would like to have Hot tub with enclosure, bar outside, large combo wood deck leading to paver patio, Viking Gas grill, Weber Charcoal grill, ice maker outside..........
Landscaping I'll leave to you LOL

I just bookmarked Giuseppe's page too. Some great inspiration there. Do you have any other's to offer up Rex?

Dan and Paul have mentioned most of the hardscape elements I'd have, notice nobody mentioned a swimming pool. The patio would have a sitting wall flanked with pillars. The deck would have two levels, one with a shade structure covered with wisteria or climbing hydrangea and the other exposed for sun in the spring and fall.
Plantings would include Locust, Gingko, Beech, Pyr Oak, Jap Maple, at least 20 different Hosta, cedar hedge, naturalized tulips and daffy's and on and on and on........

Got to have the wisteria and Japanese maples. I have filled in more swimming pools than I can remember.
I also don't have much interest in a hot tub but I have to have a place to have a small fire that I can sit out by on a starry nite.

Here's the only pic we have of the place - weird angle, but necessary, because the front door faces a shallow front yard that is a bit wooded beyond the lot line.

The brown is approximately where the house is, with the front marked on it.
And by the way, selling a house stinks. We had a showing scheduled for 6:30 to 7:30 tonight - pain in the neck to begin with, but when we get back at 7:30, the agent is there, but the interested people have not even showed up yet. So we played basketball with the neighbors until about 8:20.
It was a family-o-mullets, so I bet they don't make an offer.

I thought about a pool too but where he lives he might get only 3 months of use out of it a year. Now thinking about the water falland carring the hot tub idea a bit farther, how about a water fall the runs into a hot tub??
