Question about building a model - help!

I am in a beginning model building class for landscape architects, architects, and landscape design students. I'm working on a model right now that is due tomorrow, and on the plan we've been provided, the land as it exists prior to redesign is hilly. Contour lines range from 835 to 895' in elevation. Is there a straightforward way to translate those elevations to my cardboard model? I am embarrassed to ask as I should have in class today, and appreciate any feedback available. The base of the model is 11x17" and the scale is 1 3/8th" = 100'.

Thanks much!

Print out the contours on paper. Use a little device that seamstresses use to make dress patterns, to trace the contours and make holes in the cardboard. I don't know what it is called, but it looks like a pizza wheel with a serated edge. You should find one at any fabric store.

What? You don't hang around fabric stores?
