questn What is Your Typical Design Project Size & Scale?

Just curious what size your typical project is... for the last 5 years our projects have been geared towards smaller landscapes...under 1/3rd acre. The designs are easily done on letter-size paper or sometimes legal-size paper. But now, since we've moved the projects are larger..sometimes an acre.. I hate working with larger paper.

I'm also curious as to what scales you most commonly use. My husband prefers architectural scale and I prefer engineering scale...

Our projects range from 1/4 acre up as far as design work. We always use Architectural scale on all of our plans. The field guys and our subcontractors are used to it, due to most of all of your commercial or builder plans are drawn this way. As far as the size of the paper, I like the larger paper compared to the smaller 8.5x11. Reason is, I think is is much easier for in the field take off of measurements and on larger jobs there are not multiple sheets to contend with. JMO

Typical job is about an acre, 1/3 of which might be undisturbed due to coastal or other wetlands protection laws. I use 24"x36" at 1"=10' usually.

Hi,

I would say that our design are about 2/3 for small residential homes 1/3 plus acres. The other 1/3 is done on rual homes. I like to use the architect scale myself. It is what we used in college and also the builders use it too. I use an 18"by 24" piece of paper for all drawings. That way if the customer calls back the next year and wants more I can just add it to the existing drawing. I only used letter size paper if I am doing just a berm or some small type of garden.
