boosting sluggish 3Q sales

looking for any success stories with generating work during slow times. there seemed to be a lull in july and august this season; bigger than usual. seeing that coming, we put out 1500 mailbox flyers in mid-June and got the typical 1% response. the flyers were the standard bright color paper with a list of our services -nothing fancy. i'm thinking this year to do the color door hanger with a few hardscape pics, as that is the type of work i'm trying to attract. that last post on direct mailing was great, got the brain working.

Vacation season is tough...I think it's better to push and book the summer in late May-early June.

That seems to be the main thing to do - just recognizing that time is slow and making efforts earlier in the season to market like crazy to get that part of the year booked. When you get to that part of the year and things are drying up, it's too late to do something about it.

At certain times of the year we will take just about any job that will make money (like now). other times we are pretty picky (April and May). What we try to do is ask people with weak jobs to wait for our slow times. It sometimes works.
