Question for the web savvy folks.

When registered with Google analytics, is it possible to view a report that shows site visitors by their e-mail extension? For example, if bob.smith@ipchicken.com visited my site, is there anyway I could find out that someone from ....@ipchicken.com visited?

Thank you.

hmm...see the browser has no way of knowing the email of the person that is on your site unless they specifically fill out a form and subit it to you. Otherwise, they are just another IP address like everyone else. There are ways to see the general location of the IP address and such, but they are not always 100% accurate.

The analytics is really meant to be feedback on your pay-per-click advertising. It shows you how many people clicked your ad, then did whatever action you wanted them to do. For instance...put the analytics code on the "thank you for signing up on our mailing list" screen that is only accessable if they fill out the form that puts them on your mailing list. That way when you run your reports in google, you see something like ...10 clicks on your ad. Therefore your site was visited 10 times. Out of those 10, 2 people filled out a contact form. Your analytics will show that you have 2 people out of ten...a "close" rate of 20 percent. Since you will have a filled out form with their info, then you will have their email etc.

As for the other 8...kinda SOL. If they didnt fill out the form (or whatever action you want them to do) then your website didnt sell them...at least not at that time.

I just typed in [super]chicken.com to see if it existed. Thankfully, my 11 year old daughter sitting net to me on the couch did not look up from her book!

Actually fitz, analytics does quite a bit more than that, and works independently of AdWords.

I'm not sure I want Google knowing everything about my sites, so I only have it running on a few low traffic ones.

@Raj, Fitz's right, there's usually no way to tie an IP address to an email account. That being said, if someone from Versa-Lok was visiting GTX via a connection that went through a Versa-Lok IP block, I could find that out (and often do ).

I think I'm going to edit the chicken.com address example. Don't want Google thinking we endorse that content.

I used to all the time. Not so much anymore. As was discussed there a few times, the signal to noise ratio has gotten out of whack. During the off season there are about a dozen similarly themed sites I visit a lot.

yeah i know what you mean. Every once in a while I still gleen a bit of useful info. Were you involved in the computer industry in a prior life (not this site! haha) or did you just kinda pick it up on the side?
