Home Show Loonies

Every year we do two to three Home Shows in the Spring. While we often dread them, they do give great exposure and bring in work. However, we also have a contest to see which Home Show Looney is the looniest. Was it the guy who fought with every landscaper there, telling us that he "already has four bids on a pond and you guys are screwing everyone. You make money on materials and labor. Your screwing us at both ends. When can I make and appointment?" After dis-qualifying this lead with other contractors I know at the show, I found out this guy has no job and no intention of buying anything. His hobby is jerking everyone's chain.

Or the guy who wants a 20'x30' pond in his backyard, but wants to hook up a solar panel to it for electricity. Can you imagine the size and quantity of solar panels he would need to power a 10000GPH pump? Doesn't make the pond fit in to a very natural setting does it?

This business brings out all kinds. Home Shows are a great way to practice qualifing leads. I tried several combacks and am more comfortable with my response now.

Anyone else have any funny Home Show Loonies?

LandArts is on a distinguished road
I've never done a home show and yet every year we get several leads that say they saw us there. The truth is they looked in the YP and liked our ad. I just say "um-hmmm" and schedule an appointment. Works for me

We have our landscape permenently in the mall but attend the Home Show anyway. We hate it with all the basement waterproofers. I mean how many of these companies can there be??? We meet lots of tire kickers but there is always work from it by the beginning of the season. We started working on Thursday and have 35 more jobs to follow and its only April first ...yikes!
