Contractor Blues

Here is a question-

I do designs only and mainly for contractors. Usually the process goes real smooth. I do the work quickly and get paid promptly.

However, there are a couple of contractors (not major suppliers of leads for me) who will give me a project, seem to be in a hurry to get it done, I drop some things to do it quickly- then nothing. A week or two later, they call with revisions, act like its urgent, again I do it quickly and then, nothing for a couple of more weeks.

I'm not hurting for the money and I would like to keep on good terms with them but I don't like dragging a project out so long without compensation (and endless minor revisions)
Did I also mention that I have been pdfing the plan via e-mail (so for all I know, it's already installed) It's been about two weeks since the last revision and my email to the effect that "let me know if this looks good and I'll be glad to print out the hard copy and, BTW, it will be x$
Any advice on dealing with companies liike this?

Thanks,
David

I pay my designer when I pick up the plan. The last time I met with her I asked for some changes while going over it and left without the plan but paid for it in full. I would not e-mail plans unless they paid in advance.

Sounds like someone is taking advantage of you. Your time is worth more than nothing so be up front with them and set forth your pricing schedule and payment terms. If they don't want to pay, say bye-bye.

And send them an invoice EVERY TIME you do design work for them.
