Lighting Connectors
hey guys -
i install kichler lighting in 90% of our lighting installs. they provide you with a whacky connector type thing to make your connections, but i have used silicone filled wire nuts becuase the kichler connectors don't seem very waterproof.
what method are you using to make your low voltage wire connections?

We use the "hub" wiring system that CAST recommends with silicone wire nuts. As soon as I can justify the expense we will go to soldered connections-a portable solder pot is a few hundred dollars.

Hey there Fakie, are you a Kichler premier contractor. I use mostly Kichler as well. For my wire nut connections I use a product made by Scotchcast. It's a 3570G resin pack. Once that thing is on, there is no way that it will ever leak or come loose. It hardens like a rock!

Paul,
I'm not sure which scotch product you're talking about. However, be careful of resin filled connectors that harden. I stopped using "Dri-Spice" connectors after I discovered the resin filler (Christy's electrical potting compound is one of them) continues to shrink long after the connection is made. It eventually cracks and the connection is exposed.
Since then I have stayed with Silicone paste filled wire nuts by "King Safety", or RTV in a huge wire nut.
Just an FYI.

hey paul - no, i'm not a premier contractor. i am not sure i install enough product to be considered one...?
anyway, i've heard of the program and it sounds interesting. i would really like some marketing support, i.e. marketing literature, direct mailers, tech data, etc, from Kichler. i haven't found that yet and maybe the PC program would supply those things....

It does. I'm sure you buy more that $2500 per year if your installing mostly Kichler. That's all it takes. Call Kichler and talk to Michele Rybus. Tell her that I sent you and she will get you set up on the program. I am an elite premier contractor and use the points for all kinds of things. I mostly use them for the annual incentive trips but you can get door hangers, brouchures, post cards, etc. In February we are going to Panama. The # is 216-573-1005 x6445. Give her a call. If your buying the product, you might as well get something back.
