Relocating Valve Boxes

It seems to me that valve boxes often get located in a place that seems to not be the best place for them. In my instance, my client has two or three ganged together right smack in the middle of a pathway. My job is to somehow combine them in an aesthetic way.

Can they be relocated and is this common??

relocating valves/valve box

The valve(s) can be relocated but the challenge remains that they should be installed somewhat close to the mainline. Mark it out with flags or paint and that will help in relocating the valves to a more appropriate spot.. Keep in mind, however, that when the valves are moved you will also need to reconnect to the lateral lines. It depends, but it may involve a bit of excavation depending on the sq. footage.
Good luck.
