lawn sprinkler coverage

What is the accepted placement for sprinklers next to a sidewalk. Most municipalities do not allow placement within 12" of sidewalk. If you put the sprinkler head 12" away from edge, do you just hope you get enough coverage from the sprinkler on the opposite side spraying toward the sidewalk to get that 12" area sufficiently irrigated?

Thanks,

Chris

If you properly place your heads, you should get head to head coverage and that can be tweaked to get the additional foot. I haven't really seen any circumstances in my area where the heads are that far away from a sidewalk, just far enough away so a stick edger won't hit them.
In cases like that, I'd make sure my other heads were covering the area ( even lightly overspraying ) the sidewalk. If you are in the colder climates, check for liability on the irrigation freezing the walk in the cold of winter ( you've seen it, someone forgets to close down the system or there is an early freeze!!)

I always over shoot at least a foot. Its over head to head cover on my systems. If you have any wind at all head to head wont work good. If you have your sprinks off the sidewalk a foot you will really need to have them a tad closer. I normally have mine about 4 " in the lawn. I use variable ark nossles on my 570's . If you have rotors its the same ease of tweaking out a little past the other head. "yes the walk will get shot a little"
