Well, I did it myself.
I installed the under ground poly pipe and risers. I had originally planned to use Orbit pop-up spray heads but since I have a large area to irrigate, I decided to use Rain Bird rotary heads. My dillemma is that the RainBird heads have 3/4" threads and the risers are 1/2" thread. Do I need to replace the risers with 3/4" or can I somehow adapt the Rain Bird heads without a problem with pressure or flow ? Thanks in advance for any help.
Get a 3/4 to 1/2" bushing and screw them together. I would put the rotors on swing joints so when foot or mower traffic hits them you don't snap a riser. They cost about $2.00 ea. but the time and effort they save you will well be worth the price.

Yes, what bill said. I would use a reducing tee to funny pipe to a 3/4" elbow though, but am thinking because you have risers, you are irrigating something other than lawn and have the heads sticking up above the ground, so it really doesn't matter then.
Can you get pre assembled swing joints instead of assembling a funny pipe? We found that at their cost, pre assembled saved us time, thus money. Rain Bird, Hunter, all of them make a pre assembled joint, but, we use alot of schedule 40 and cannot run poly pipe, so if you don't use a swing joint, the latteral will snap off..

How could the lateral snap if your pipe is a foot deep?
All I ever have happen is the riser and the sprinkler are in the street.? (stupid kids like to kick sprinks after a bad day at school.)

Any time I have ever seen a solid connection to the latteral, if the head is stepped on, driven over, kicked, or a gohper farting next to it, the latteral cracks. Which is OK if you want to promote irrigation repair as a sideline I guess. I look at it as every time we ever have to do a call back, it costs money. Much cheaper to build swing joint costs into the installation, charge accordingly, and move to the next job without worry of having a call back.....
