Limestone Patio?

There is a nice flowing creek flowing in the field behind my house. There are large smooth flat limestone rocks in it. They are all of different size and thickness.

Can these be turned into a decent patio? The rocks are beautiful.

Anybody ever done a project like this successfully or unsuccessfully?

I live in Ohio so its the gray fossil limestone.

Thanks!

Never tried. But I think it'd come down to how uniform the stones were in thickness - the less uniform they are, the harder it is to get them all to the same elevation for a pavement (and harder to keep them there).

papercutter will become famous soon enough
I just laid a patio in my own yard with a similar situation. I got several tons of flat-ish stones for free from an excavator, but they varied in thickness from 1" to 5". They were free, so I guess it was worth the aggravation, but it was a tremendous pain in the butt. I probably wouldn't recommend it as the way to do your first patio ever (if it is your first), although if you're patient and good at slow, frustrating detail work, you'll get it done. Eventually

Oh Great.

I'm horrible at all those qualities you just mentioned and never laid a patio.....lol

I'm just so tempted...... I'll never be able to afford one professionally .

Maybe I could collect the rocks then have a mason install them for me?

Have any photos papercutter?

Just think of the professionals hourly rate and how long it will take for him to make it work. Most of the time it is not the material costs that dictate price but skilled labour
