whats the deal with contractors lately?

Recently been looking to get my old deck removed and have a nice 21'x 25' concrete patio put in.
looking through the phone book i called a few locals and left a voice mail two three times in week
their voice mails all say their company name and they will call right back
You would think they really need the business with the way the economy is now.
anyways my question is are contractor too busy to call back or the economy took them out?
by the way i still need a quote for a 21'x 25' concrete patio im in the NW Sub of Chicago

I have no idea of the type of companies you are calling, but I know that many landscape companies do not offer plain, poured concrete patios. Maybe take a look on the internet for companies that show the type of patio you want and contact those. Also, you might want to consider a patio made of interlocking concrete pavers. Good luck.

Landscapers usually sub out concrete work if it is part of an overall landscape installation. If you are only doing a concrete patio, try calling a concrete company.

cut backs on staff require less people to do the same amount of work maybe?

What Lanelle said, plus time of year. We are going full bore in southern Wisconsin now, and a mason is what you need for a poured concrete patio, not a landscaper.
