Raised patio landing against house

I am putting in a paver patio with a 6" higher landing stepping up to the house. I plan to put a retaining wall for the landing first and then built the lower patio up to the wall. I think I will need two rows of 4" wall block or 6" plus paver (one above the level of the lower patio) to retain the landing. Can I use adhesive with flat block? The landing abuts the house siding (vinyl over original wood siding, below is concrete block crawl space). Do I wall a gap away from the house? Should I flash to keep water from between house and patio? What material?

Thanks,

I am not really following your description but you always want to step down out of the door to avoid snow build-up. Always flash. Get behing siding and give the water an escape. The cleanest look is to remove the vinyl siding. Flash (ice and water shield as a barrier) install block, install flashing j-channel and siding. What area are you in ludlow?

SE Indiana. I guess the main question is how best to install a moisture barrier going from the siding down to the block wall. Also, would you then put your base material and pavers up against the barrier.

Don't put base material against your house - asking for trouble doing that. Keep that at the level of your foundation, and build up from there with block. You'll want to trim out your siding where the patio/steps are, otherwise you'll nevern be able to replace that siding without tearing out the steps. We use metal flashing or trim coil to cover/protect that area.

Hope that helps.
