Need help for concrete pavers around Pool.

Hi,

I moved into a new home couple of years ago and it has concrete pavers around the pool. The pavers are rough and the coping is also made of concrete pavers and it is also rough and gets hot. I do not want to remodel the pool deck just enhance the pavers. What I want is to somehow make the pavers smoother but at the same time not slippery and also cooler and maybe change the color by painting or staining. Any advice and suggestions are appreciated.

Eesh. That's a tall order. Short of a grinder with a diamond cup, scouring every paver one by one, I'm not aware of a way to make the pavers "smoother." As for their ability to hold heat - that's just part of the paver. Concrete pavers hold heat. I suppose you could paint them white to reflect the heat, but I'm not aware of a paint made for that purpose, and if there was one, I'm sure it would not hold up well in the joints of the pavers.

Ultimately I believe it's going to come down to either learning to live with what you have or replacing the pavers.

Stonehenge- you think an acrylic like xcel deck would move enough to not be a total disaster? I wouldn't want to try it on my house (or my clients!) but it could be worth a phone call.

If the pavers don't have polymeric sand in the joints, sealing the pavers might make them feel a bit smoother but I don't know how it would affect the heat issue.

@PC - with the size of the pavers, I'd have to wonder if that would work.

Looking at things again I don't know what might be meant by "smooth" - does it mean there's been lots of uneven settling? Or maybe just a textured paver? My daughter likes it when I make the lawn "smooth", so I suppose the term is up for interpretation.
