laying pavers- need quick advise

I have a 27 x 23 patio which will take me some time to lay the pavers. So, is it ok to lay out a layer of stone dust over the whole patio and just scrape away lines to lay screeding poles to lay small sections at a time? what about when some portions have pavers already laid, but there is more to go...do i need to cover them to avoid any disturbance of the stone dust before compaction?? There has been a lot of rain in this area for a couple of weeks with much of the same in the forcast. We get sunny weather for a few hours then a thunderstorm, a few times a day. Some of the rainfall is significant.

thanks for the help.
Scott

That's not ideal, but if the facts are such that you can't lay it in a day, then do what you have to do.
