Compacting polymeric sand?

I'm replacing sand with polymeric sand on a walkway that is made up of bricks placed on top of cement within a beam framework. How important is the vibrated compaction that is recommended? Thanks for your responses.

If you have pavers over concrete, you shouldn't compact. Unless you like broken brick.

Wow, I sure wouldn't have known that! I'm glad I asked here before just following the instructions. Thanks!

HRLand is an unknown quantity at this point
You still might want to tap the pavers with a hand tamper to settle the sand in tight.

This is a case where you really only want to vibrate the pavers so that the sand settles into the joints. Before the days of poly sand we would wet sweep sand into the joints in cases like this. Does anyone know of a machine that would only gently vibrate but not pack?
