I just bought a new house and the last homeowner had a large area done with SRW. The landscaper made a firepit using the SRW (I think its techo bloc). From previous topics here it seems there is a special brick for this application.
The previous owner said they never had problems, but that doesn't mean something isnt cooking literally.
FE - was refractory cement used in the joints of that fire brick?
@Greensmith - the brick you're after is called fire brick - they're almost always a kind of yellow color. The sizes vary (wildly) be region, as I found out when talking to Colby Dehoff from Whitacre-Greer, one of our sponsors. Here's a link to some info: http://www.wgpaver.com/firebrick.htm
Stone, no refractory cement or fire clay. Regular mortar has held up well for us so far and several of our masons say they just use reg. mortar for inside fireplaces now. Not what I would do inside but.... to each their own I guess.
I've got one more to build in a week or 2 and will probably use fireclay on that one.
This is not a reply, I had my patio and walkways done by Paver-Pro three months ago, now I have many cracks between the pavers, it seems there is no sand or there was not enough sand to begin with, is there anything can be done?
