Travertine tile / sealing

We're about to finish a travertine tile seat bench back and bullnose travertine seat. Client had many indecisions while trying to pick out the right color grout, etc.. but I think we're good to go now.
However, since they picked out the grout from the Big Box Store, they were told to seal the travertine and then apply the grout.
That goes against my belief and I'm not going to do it but just wanted some additional insight from any of you who have installed, grouted and sealed travertine tile. The actual travertine importer said to grout firat and then seal.

Thanks in advance.
