Sealing Exposed Aggregate Patio

Hi,
I am new here and have a question about sealing my backyard patio.

I live in a townhome and have a very small backyard made up mostly of an exposed aggregate patio. We also have a medium sized dog who does his business on said patio and in the summer heat, the urine smell seams to come out and the entire yard smells disgusting. It's som bad, we can't even keep the sliding door open and it's quite embarassing when we have company over.

I had the idea to maybe seal the patio so the urine does not soak in, and hopefully this will lock whatever smell exists under the sealant. Problem is our local home stores around here are completely clueless when it comes to sealing concrete. Is there a product that is specifically suited for this type of substrate and will it help with the urine smell?

Thanks for any replies.

Erik

There are stone sealers as well as paver sealers, and because both end up sealing concrete and aggregate, either one should seal the area fine. However, I have never used it to try to seal in/out a smell, so I don't know how efficacious it'll be for that.

I don't think a sealer will work, urine is naturally acidic my guess the acid will eat right thru any sealer. I wouldn't waste the money. A small dog run maybe your answer. Digging out a small patch and the filling it with with a base of (1")crushed charcoal with (2") pea gravel I would still set it on a pitch to encourage run-off. The charcoal will hopefully absorb the urine that drains thru the pg. Pea gravel is very popular with K-9 kennels I've sold some myself. Good luck. e STONE REPORT
