biggrin LOOKING 4 CONCRETE PAVER INFO (Engineers I Need Your Help)

I am a graduating senior Civil Engineering student at the University of South Alabama. I am currently working on our senior project which is a design of a LEED certified 'green building'. My design team is going to use interlocking concrete pavers for the parking of our building to meet LEED standards. Alos, we are looking into to using porous concrete for all sidewalks. I would like to request some technical specification on the interlocking concrete pavers. I need the following data:

- infiltration rates for the interlocking concrete pavers & porous concrete
- an approximate cost estimate per square foot (including installation) for each (pavers & porous concrete)
- any life cycle cost data that is available
- durability of the concrete pavers & porous concrete
- how do you handle oil/grease from parked vehicles clogging the porous pavers
- 'C' values (runoff coefficient) for interlocking concrete pavers and porous concrete

I would like to thank you in advance for any data you supply and also thank you for your time.

Wnen ever I tried to find similar info I have come up short. There are reports on specific projects, but the ones that I have seen are pretty cyptic about how they derived their 'c' values. They seem to always hide the math and then tell you it is site specific based on the perc rate of the subsoil and the base material used. I have yet to find one that breaks it down so that you could come up with a 'c' based on your own subsoil and base material.

Ideal Concrete has been using data from a big project that was either out on Long Island or in Connecticut to help market a pervious paver product called "ecostone".

You might want to call the manufacturers and their sales reps.

If you find any good info, please share it with us.

You might also check with Techo-Bloc for the specs on their permeable paver system called Permea. It can have a sizeable underground infiltration base. The 'porous' nature comes from the engineered spaces between the paver blocks that allows water to drain into the underground leach area.
Are you going to put a green roof on top of building areas?

Yes, we are using a 'cool' roof in combination with a 'green' roof. All stormwater will be captured on the roof, filtered, and re-used to flush toilets/urinals in the building. Our initial number cruuching shows this is going to greatly decrease the building's water demand (much lower water bill each month).

Anyone else have any data on the pavers and porous concrete? Isn't Mr. Rob Burak a member on this forum??? He should be able to help...could someone get his attention of thread? Thanks guys!!!

Pervious Concrete

I just got something from the NJLCA about pervious concrete that might solve your problem. Contact Kenneth Justice, PE at 610-828-5119 or email kjustice@necementshippers.com.

There is also the NECSA NorthEast Cement Shippers Association.

If you happen to be in NJ on Wednesday the 19th, Ken is giving a presentation on the topic. There's also a buffet dinner - what could be wrong?

I would think the ICPI would be able to provide some of those answers, ICPI is the Interlocking, Concrete Pavement Institute.

There are a couple of good recources available to you on paving stones and LEED availability. One of the leaders in research and development in this area is UNI-GROUP U.S.A. Manufacturers of UNI Paving Stones.

We are a Uni Group member, but it is comprised of many manufacturers liscensed all over the country/world, not just Unilock.
