Stihl Cut off saw

I own a stihl ts 400 cut off saw. I have had it for about 4 years. Never had much trouble with it other than having to replace the broken pull cord right in the middle of a big project, even though the 2 projects before I said to myself "you better replace that cord before it breaks". My question is with the water attachment feature. I have always had an awful time with keeping the rotten thing attached to the hose. I replaced the stupid fitting that attacheds to the hose. I down sized the garden hose. I put a valve on the end of a hose to keep the water pressure down, I designed an attachment using a washer hose and clamps (this worked well until it melted) Finally, I gave up and talked to the tech support guy at their US headquarters who told me "Your the first person who ever told me in twenty years that he was having a problem with it." Said I probably needed a new fitting. I hope I am not really the only one who has had this problem, and I hope their new line of saws addresses it....but that would mean that guy lied to me.

Are you having trouble because the pressure is making the connection burst? If this is the case, just keep the water pressure low coming from the spigot. The water needs only be going a trickle.

Nah, it's not water supply I turned it way down and also I had valve at saw side of hose to control pressure. The connection just never stays on especially as I move saw from side to side, like when cutting pavers or blue stone in place.

Tech support lies.

Replace the fitting. We do this several times a year with our 2 TS400s. Both the hose end and the saw end go bad with continuous use. You're dealer should stock a complete set.

I've found that hanging a valve right at the saw makes the problem worse. The extra weight and bulk seems to wear the fitting down quicker. Put a splitter at the end of the main hose, and feed the saw with a shorter auxilliary hose.

Some homes have so much water pressure that even leaving the hose bib barely open and the splitter valve barely open yields too much pressure at the saw. We've had the hoses from the saw valve to the water emitters at the blade burst more than once.

The 2 water emitters by the blade sometimes get clogged and need to get cleaned as well. This can put too much back pressure on the the blade feeder hoses and the water attachment valve. To clean the emitters you need to remove the blade, and then take the emitters off the blade shield. You should then be able to take the emitters apart and clean.

Other than this maintenance item, our TS400s have been great saws.

Good Luck!

My shtil gives me more trouble than my partner, unless you count that time that the guys forgot to put mix in the can and we melted the engine (after repair the partner is a 1200 dollar rig.
Our Sthil is a big PITA. Every few hrs we have to strip the blade and clean the emitters. It is in the shop now getting a spring tune up including a new water kit.

I'll ad my next shut off valve a few feet away from the saw, that is a good tip, Voodoo.

We found that replacing the stock fittings at the saw with quality brass garden hose quick connects solved the problem. We also added a large 3" water shut off to the saw to make it easier and safer to regulate water flow. So far (two years later) it has had no problems. The only times we have clogging issues is when the guys cut with water and then cut dry. The dust then sticks to the wet emiters in the shield. If the saw is cleaned after each use it doesn't clog.
