A fun fence project

We had a couple warm days this weekend so I was able to get some work done on a project att he homestead before the Spring Rush comes.

I don't do a lot of fences. I have built an arbor here or there. This fence is 100% red cedar.

This project was fun because I did it with my Dad. He's over 60 -- but can still work circles around anybody I know. All of the Cedar used in the project was from trees cut down on his farm in AR. We milled the trees down into all of the lumber we used.

I still need to finish the arbor, the gate and finish the posts. Its not supposed to be above 30 for a week or so -- time for a break.

In front of the fence will be planted espaliered apple trees.

Yeah the milling was fun. My Dad runs a business in AR where he clears peoples pastures. He has a couple skid steers with giant scissor attachments where he can cut trees upt o 8 inches in diameter off at the ground.

I have had him stockpiling cedar he cuts down for months. I went down this summer and fall and milled some with him. His mill is pretty basic -- but it works ok -- Basicallya GIANT bandsaw that you use to slice the tree into whatever size lumber you want. We had to strap and let it dry for several weeks or it would warp. Then we had plane each piece down to the size we wanted.

A lot of work -- but it has more value to me that way -- Plus I could never afford to build a fence with all cedar like that! Only my customers can afford that!

Ha ha ha. Funny. We find ourselves in the same situation..."wow, I'd love to do that for us, I just can't afford it!"
It really is beautiful, Kudos again!

What a nice fence project. An how nice that the material is "in the family". The espaliered apple trees are an interesting idea.
Once again, nice project.
