I am finished with all prep work of a paver driveway. We are now
on hold because the homeowner wants to pay and have delivered
the pavers himself. I found out the only reason they havent been delivered is because the price of the delivery. After a day and a half he now wants me to pick the pavers. He is holding me up from finishing this job. I sent my guys to another job where we can start but then we will have to pick and go back. I have never had this happen before and would like some advice on how to charge for coming back to finish and the pick up of material. Thanks for your help. This forum has been a great help.

I believe Paul is the one I took the advice to have in my contract a mobilization charge which is a clause on it that specifies there will be a fee added it if you have to pull out your crew from the job site due to homeowners or third party delays outside your control, ours is a $400 fee.

We charge and/or recharge a job mobilization fee when circumstance arise like this...whether we are being held up by other contractors and have to leave a jobsite, non-payment or late payments on draw dates, etc...

You have to take into consideration you are having to reschedule and add another trip to the job. Your crew arrives at the office, they have to load up again, go pick up materials and so on and so on. This all cost you money. I am sure you know what your operating expenses are per hour, so I would charge this back to the customer plus profit.

It is important to have some type of terminology in your contract which allows for such fees.

Lanelle's company uses mobilization charges as well. We don't have a formal item in our contract for it - I just tell the client about it if we're faced with that situation. Sounds like a difficult customer to me. Good luck.

We have a crew pull-off charge of $400.00.. If we have to pull a crew off your job, because of something that you or
another of your subs did or did not do, and we have to leave and come back, then we charge. I have only had to use it once in 12 years.

People need to understand that delivery costs money, even "free" delivery. I'll never understand how homeowners think that they are somehow not paying for a person to drive around in a big, gas guzzling truck all day. Yeesh.

If your contract makes clear that your client was responsible for having the pavers delivered, slap a change order on them and make them pay, pay, pay.
