To make this post shorter, I would like to hear what happens when the client hears it is going to cost $2k plus to move one rock.

I think this is what most of us are thinking about, and most of us know what the answer is going to be.

That's why I'm not really responding with any info on what or what can't be done. It's all theory at this point.

Malrex is an unknown quantity at this point
Well, unfortanetely, I don't have a really good story about what the homeowner thought. I had this huge packet of materials with pictures and my plan and showed up all fired up. He had a flat tire though and I spoke to his father and went over things. Guess there was also some drama with putting one of his pets asleep so I'm waiting for the weekend to give him a call (can only reach him on weekends due to his job, well, at least thats the only phone number he gave me). My gut tells me that the job is a no-go, but you never know.

I've tried to think of a way to include the rock where it sits now, but it's about 2 feet away from a paver path and just sticks out like a sore thumb. It would be pretty difficult to make it blend in with the landscape (area is so flat around it and I would want to build up around it with dirt, plants and other stones, but that path is somewhat of a problem) and he was pretty adamantite about having water flow over it...good times.

My plan for padding was to have sand, underlayment, the liner I was going to use for the pond under it, then another piece of liner for the waterfall. Then I was going to use a piece of underlayment, and either a shag rug or the foam they put under carpet. Having something that it could sit on would be good for getting the straps out. I figured I would only have one shot...one placement, then I wouldn't move it...the new location I could work with for blending it in.

If you scheduled the appointment and a client shows more interest in what is going on in their lifes, then most likely it is a client you do not want to get involved in. If you just stopped without an appointment, it can be understood.

But, I have found that 95% of clients who are distracted while we meet are total waste of times. Had one once who was walking around his 2 acre property pulling danderlions while we talked. This was a 40k job and he was more worried about his lawn, which was a total POS to begin with and complained about how much it costs to have a lawn service.

Learn to pick up on signs like this. If they don't have time for you, then don't make time for them.
