tools used for patio installations

I have been installing a few patios here and there. I was wondering if there are any tools that can assist me in making sure that my patio is parallel with a house or deck (besides a tape measure)? I completed one patio that was raised on one side using Brussel Blocks. I had one heck of a time making sure that the wall was set perfectly, 90 degree turns and parallel from the house so that the patio set perfectly into the retainer. There has to be a tool out there that can make my life a little easier.

Not sure about tools, but I use the 3-4-5 rule to get my angles 90.
