I understand the advantage of dry-laid. My concern would be that the dry-laid pavers would heave along the joint with the wet-laid flagstone, creating a tripping hazard.

Out here the frost-line is 4', so yeah, we have so freeze/thaw issues!!!

I don't believe there would be a real frost/thaw issue. I've done similiar work where dry laid material meet non-dry laid and the actual movement is miniscule. It's not as if the pavers jump up and down an inch, or even 1/2 inch or 1/4 inch(if installed correctly).

I don't really know the origin of the stone. Around here it's often referred to as a "poor man's crab orchard", because it's cheaper than crab orchard by a fair amount.

Although I love crab orchard (we used it for stair treads elsewhere on that job) I absolutely love the patterns in the rainbow flagging. Some pieces actually look like a flag blowing in the breeze!

The only drawback is that it's not generally available in tread dimensions (2-inch or larger) nor in tread lengths and widths.

Also, what's the best way to cleanup the mortar/concrete "hazing" on the stones? Is it muriatic acid?

...update. Any one know where I can get these Kerabond and Keralstic products. I've had no luck finding them. I did a Google search and got little help. I thought Lowe's carry it but they said that they no longer do.

I would start looking for that stuff at a brick and block yard. Or at a masonry supply house.
One of our local stone dealers carries it. You could do the same thing with "silpro". Maybe lowes has that. We don't have lowes but we do have HD. The only good think about it is that it has a Hebrew National Hot Dog vendor out front.
