I don't really know the origin of the stone. Around here it's often referred to as a "poor man's crab orchard", because it's cheaper than crab orchard by a fair amount.
Although I love crab orchard (we used it for stair treads elsewhere on that job) I absolutely love the patterns in the rainbow flagging. Some pieces actually look like a flag blowing in the breeze!
The only drawback is that it's not generally available in tread dimensions (2-inch or larger) nor in tread lengths and widths.
