Bluestone Production Rates

Want kind of production rates do you all get on dry laid thermal bluestone? I'm putting together a good sized bid with what seems like conservative production rates but my pricing still feels low.

Also- most guys around here lay on stone dust (including me) but after doing some paver work last year I think maybe sand is a better material for it. Thoughts?

I am doing a proposal for bluestone right now. All 1inch thick but not the thermal stuff.

Job is 1325 feet. I am figuring 8 days from start to finish. Excavating will be done by the excavator, so i am not worried about that.

This is with me and 2 guys.

I might be over estimating the time, but i'd rather be over than under.

Oh yea, i am installing on your typical paver base. 6-7in of road base, 1 in concrete sand.

Matt

I usually bid 10 feet in an hour. The thermal BS in sand would probably go quicker, but it is not like laying pavers. There are still variation is the stone and it taked time to make all your gaps .5 in. With the stuff we use you can't just set them and you are done. Maybe you can find perfectly gauged stuff where you are.

Isn't 1" a little thin to be dry laying? We always used the rule that blue stone under 1.5" should be wet layed and you should have a majority of 2" for dry. Do you have a process to prevent cracking at this thickness when setting? Just curious.

I had 10 days for 1600 sq ft of random rectangular 1.5" thermal which, like I said, seemed like enough time. Same base as you mrusk. It ends up being about 17 sq ft. I've always heard estimates from other people in the $20-25 range and even as high as thirty. Never worried about it before because we haven't done a lot of large hardscapes but this is part of big job and I don't want to leave that kind money on the table. Maybe I'm not giving it enough time?

10 days may be about right for 1600 sq feet.

My job is exactly 1250 sq feet (in this one area atleast) and i am at 8 days. If i had to do the excavation it be 9 days.

Tricky dick- I did 2 smaller jobs (300 and 400sq') last fall and was able to scree and lay each job in a day (alone). Its not as fast as pavers but its quicker (and a whole lot less aggravating) than cleft bluestone
I use screenings under bluestone
17 would be on the cheap side around here (philly burbs) I know
some co.'s around here are getting 20+
