best mortar type

hey guys,

with all this talk about fireplaces, bbqs, etc coupled with the nice weather, i had to go out and sell a fireplace. let me ask you - what type of mortar are you using for outdoor stonework, both flatwork and stone veneer? (not the refractory mortar to assemble the fireplace - i'm talking stonework on the outside, patios, walls, etc. i have always just used quickrete type "s", but are there betters brands, or types for outdoor work that you have found?

thanks - here's to a great season!!

We've mostly used a type S for most of the basic projects and has held up just fine.
On our last job with synthetic stone, we used a product called Stone Hold ( ? ) which seemed to have a better, more "gluey" ( I know, funny word but I'm in a rush to get to P.T.O. ) feel to it.
Flatwork we use more straight Portland.
