oops- another broken cell phone

Does anyone have a suggestion for a brand/model of cell phone that will take dropping on the ground and/or rolling around on the floor of my truck? In the lase 10 years I have been averaging a destroyed cell phone every 12-18 months. If there isn't one made, there should be a cell phone made specifically for the construction trades. I don't want a Nextel.

This is in the hardscaping forum because hardscaping is how I usually break my cell phones.

-thanks

I think Nextel is the main phone for the heavy abusers.

I've got a Motorola flip phone that I'm gentle with, but it's still well on it's way to cashing in it's chips. But it's 3 years old, so that seems fair.

I just bought the Verion Gz'one phone and I like it. A very nice 2 meg camera which is very handy. Metal case. water resistant, shock resistant. Ok to wash it off they say, just don't use hot soapy water.

Good Luck.

I have I motorola flip phone (might be that gzone one) with a rubberized edge that's going on two years. You have to realize though that these things are only made to last a few years to begin with so If you get 2 yeaqrs in our business your doing okay.

I wish we could get those founds nextel uses with verizon!

I was killing phones in a year or less. I now keep my phone in the truck and check it every hour or so. If i am expecting a call i'll put the phone on the wall or something.

I used to keep my phone in my pocket. It seemed like i'd have 5 lbs of dirt and rock in my pocket by the end of the day that wa skilling the phone.

I have the Nextel i560 as well. It has a military spec and I will probably upgrade to the heavier phone.

Drop it at least once a day. Going on 3 years with this phone. I keep it in a plastic holdre that I can clip to my shirt front and talk on the radio and phone hands free.

Don't drop a Verizon phone in a pond though....

i560 here too, and it's been through a lot of abuse. I've dropped it on pavement from in the back of the truck without any drama. I found it won't stand up to being run over by a 17,000 pound truck though!

My Nokia 6610 didn't like our bobcat running over it too much. I have a blackberry now and it has a belt pouch that has a steel insert. I have seen a lot of guys break the flip phone spines when picking up heavy items.

Getting harder to find a good phone that isn't a delicate screen/small button device.

That G zone that Verizon has out is also good for surviving 10' depths of water. It is by Motorola, I think, and is built top some kind of military standard for shock and moisture.

.. supposedly.

I have good luck with Nokia bar style phones. I have a tendency to put my phones through hell with dropping and everything else and the Nokia's are the only phones that last through my bad cell phone habits. I just recently upgraded and the old phone was beat-up and had several chips, but still worked fine. It was even ran over by a tractor tire--in very soft sand, so it didn't break.

My husband just recently had to replace a Motorola flip phone because of water. He's an irrigator and even in it's leather case, the water ruined the phone. He has a Nokia flip now, hasn't changed his work habits, but no phone problems.

I can't think of the Model numbers of the phones we use, but I've used several different Nokia's and they've all done well for me. We also have Nokia's for our work crews and they can't destroy them either....

Get the insurance when you buy the phone. I think it's like $5.00 a month, and covers damage loss etc. My brother drove over one phone, they gave him a new one, next one he dropped in the toilet, got another one.

I bought a new phone, had it a week, and either lost it or I was ripped off, yep they gave me a new one.

Granted it comes out to $60.00 a year, but if your hard on phones like I am, it''s better than buying a $200.00 phone every few months.
