Raj, those pre-engineered fireboxes do look easy to install. I guess much of it depends on the manufacturer ( I've come across some cheap looking ones ) & how you make the outside look.
It does take quite a bit of time to build one from scratch.
OK, who's going to install one and post pics?

I'm planning for 2007, and hope for 2 to start. I really like the fire rock product; so that will be what I try. I will make a point of posting whatever I do here.

Last night a local mason told me he quoted abt. $6800 Cadn for one that would be 8' across and I'm not sure how high but with a decent stack...all materials and labour, no prefab, footings 4' deep- upscale neighbourhood... the prospect balked only on price.

Other than that, and some work at his daughters house, he wasn't aware of anything like this around here.

Cutntrim...how very un-Canadian of you for telling anyone where to go...

My sister and I were the first Canadians in the family. Both my parents, and several generations back, are Americans. I like to think that being Canadian tempers my tendency to voice my opinion (strongly) on most any subject, but as with my American relatives... that's not always the case.

I thought I will do one. However, I think I overpriced when gived estimate. For 6w x 8h I estimated $10,000 us. I planned to use pre-engineered fire box, and build structure from blocks and do stone veneer.http://www.fornobravo.com/outdoor_fi...lace_kits.html
